Max with Brush

As I mentioned before I'm keen to let go of my Wacom and get some more stuff done on paper. Well here's another attempt at brush inking, using a Faber-Castell brush pen, with emphasis on different line widths.

Once I get some more practice I might feel like spending the money on some nice bristol or something, which should, maybe, possibly, in a fair world, improve the quality a little. Although I still need to learn to get faster, smoother strokes, or find some way of keeping my hand/arm extra steady.

Hatching, there's another thing I need to look into. I've done it very sketchy here, not sure if I like it. This is all the Beano's fault! I saw some original artwork up close recently and was just blown away by the quality of it. As a kid I never really appreciated what went into these drawings. Although I'm sure a lot of it gets lost when it's shrunk way down and printed cheaply.

I don't have any pictures to show some of the excellent line work on the characters but this is a nice example of the kind of quality these kids' comics have/had (I haven't seen a recent one in a decade).

Oh, and while writing this I realised Max has the Batman logo on his tag...

More to follow!
