Karate

A print I was commissioned to design a few months ago. I never got a chance to see the printed and framed version, but I'm told it looked good.

Typographical Movie Posters

Some old college work I came across while sorting out my files. I never posted it on this blog at the time, and I still quite like the designs.

From Early 2007 I think.

New Website

Now that it's 2012 I thought it was time I finish my homepage. I abandoned the previous, unfinished one in favour of something with a neater design and one that's a little more phone-friendly. I.E. not Flash. Anyway, check it out: www.markhaldane.com

Stepping Back

I just made a new banner for this blog, and at the same time changed the name from "my sketch blog", one I only kept because I liked how the words fitted together. I've had it for four years now, time for a change. Remember when the blog used to look like this? Simpler times...

Trooper Poster

A super quick concept painting for my final film poster to experiment with layout and colour. What do you all think?

The Clock video

I made some early posts about this video I did for college but I never released it for public viewing until now. The brief only asked for 2 minutes of video, and considering it was a graphic design course I was perhaps a little ambitious and getting 2 minutes done in the time given was a challenge. I would have liked to have done the whole song. As it is, it's really a two-minute sample of what could be done for the whole song. Some bits near the end were designed to sync up to lyrics later in the song.

iRobot

Alternative layout to the original picture. I have a print of this one on my wall now and it looks quite good.

Acoustic Energy

An experiment in Photoshop with one of my life drawings. I'm thinking about doing a set of these, either with some drawings that weren't time restricted. Not to totally loose the scratchy look, I like that. I might try scratching it on a photograph, the effect reminds me of that.

An animated version of this isn't out of the question either...

King Cobra

These aren't fantastic photos, but they get the point across. The product design guys came up with various packaging designs, and then we (the graphic designers) get given one, and set the task of designing the surface graphics. So here's the design with my graphics applied!

King Cobra

Part of my design for my current college project. The faux gold effect is for the screen only, for the final print ideally there would be gold foil blocking... Or whatever the term is. Basically, it'd be shiny. A metallica matt shine, or a full reflective shine, I haven't yet decided. The logo for this product has a fully reflective gold part.

Motion Graphics

My current college brief is to create an animated promo for Thom Yorke's song The Clock, to give us some experience with Flash and adding the element of time to graphic design. They therefore prefer the term motion graphics to animation.

One goal for me is good colour - I want it to be dark and menacing but without going monochromatic or just dull, grey and depressing.
