Updates from the Train

Every kid in Glasgow looks like this, right down to that bag (long, baggy shorts interchangeable with tight, skinny jeans).

A few people said Trooper looked too 80s. I guess I just needed to make her clothes bigger/smaller (preferably the former).

Haunted Planet

Astronauts would tell tales of witnessing ghosts in the vicinity of Kepler 22b, that would appear at the windows of their ships, scratch on the glass and even float down the corridors. But of course, they're only stories, right?

I haven't drawn Trooper in a while, so here we go. An episode of The X-Files taught me that extra-terrestrial ghosts are scarier than human ghosts. It's like, two kinds of scary.

Conflicting Ideas - Full Film

"An artist's rivaling creations fight for his attention."

The culmination of my year in MSc Animation and Visualisation. A short film that combines traditional 2D animation with live action with some VFX to boot.

Conflicting Ideas - Behind the Scenes

A short look at the production of my latest film which combines 2D animation with live action, in which an artist's prior creations exist in the same world he does - but not peacefully.

Trooper's Helmet

I was always concerned that Trooper's backwards cap came across too retro. I don't know why I never tried giving her a colander before. Totally what an 8-year-kid playing space marines might do.

Chucking Out Time

It's been a while since I've updated this blog. Haven't had room on my mind for anything outside my masters project, which is in the animation stage just now. I'll try and get some more stuff up soon once it all starts taking shape.

Cast

Stand-ins/references for animated characters in my current live action/animation crossover film. Certainly is fun to draw this big after drawing so many small comic panels. It's also nice to see the result matches the small drawings quite well.

Lectures, etc.

I'm not sure if I'm cut out for a Masters course... though it does offer me opportunities to improve on my observational drawing. Among other things.

Trooper Animation Test

My opening shot. If you haven't watched the animatic and don't want any spoilers, maybe give this one a miss ;)

Trooper Updates

Some updates from the film I'm currently working on. Some stills, concept art, the works.

Rob's been doing the 3D modelling for me based on my designs. I'll update with some better pics soon, these are pretty early.
